I ran a 427 for last 10 years. It was a 3.76 427 crank in a 1981 454 block and ran mid 10s with oval port heads and 680 258/268 @050 solid roller at 3500lbs. In a light car with a 5000 stall and a deep gear it will run really good, as good as a 454 and it will be more of a indestructable combo.

My advice would be to build a 427 or 454 big block, they got strong components, way better heads, and a great foundation to build more power.
