The retainer is at the top of the valve spring and is entirely a different subject. The locating shim commonly breaks for several reasons.

There is a valve spring kit for the 604 that is pretty cheap, but not for the 602 yet so it cost a lot more. But one is coming for the 602 sometime this year so i've been told. I may be off on some of this. I just got my first 602 and haven't even ran it yet so someone else may know more on the life of the springs.
